Deconstructing a complementarian comment on "How is Man the Head of the Women"
Let's talk about this
Response to comment from a complementarian to the article, “How is Man the Head of the Women.”
COMMENT: QUOTE: I would like to be an egalitarian, but through a lot of study on the subject I am convinced the Bible says otherwise. I have got this far in reading this series and will not be reading any further as I have found little substance to much of what you have said. A great amount of straw man arguments, assumptions and supposed extrapolations. Several times already, people’s personal thoughts and feelings seem to be given a much credence as the Word of God itself. Unfortunately, the same can be said of most of the egalitarian sources that I have read. It is disappointing that a view held by so many cannot be articulated clearly from the words of the Bible without so many distractions. END QUOTE
Deconstructing this reasoning “I would like to be an egalitarian, but through a lot of study on the subject I am convinced the Bible says otherwise.” A lot of study? What study sources? This would have been a good opportunity and great place to defend complementarianism by listing complementarian study resources.
“I am convinced the Bible says otherwise”. The bible says otherwise? Where? No scripture references were included in the comment. Why not?
“I have got this far in reading this series and will not be reading any further as I have found little substance to much of what you have said.” The ARTICLE IN QUESTION And all articles in this series contain a great deal of substance to which the commenter made no attempt to argue against—only attacked.
Truth has nothing to fear from discussion, but the commenter made no attempt at discussion here, only attacked with unfounded statements. Though reader’s comments are encouraged in this column, no attempt was made to take advantage of a perfect opportunity to defend his position using scripture or other references. Instead he hurled insults, which are the only weapons available to those who cannot defend their positions.
“A great amount of straw man arguments, assumptions and supposed extrapolations.” No examples are given, but this comment is clearly in response to the exposé by this writer of COMPLEMENTARIAN STRAWMAN ARGUMENTS Which the commenter had no answer for.
“Several times already, people’s personal thoughts and feelings seem to be given as much credence as the Word of God itself.” The only argument this commenter gave to reject the content of THE ARTICLE was to state his opinion that he believed the bible teaches complementarianism. He made no attempt to explain why he believes that, only that he believes it. That is not a substantive argument.
“Unfortunately, the same can be said of most of the egalitarian sources that I have read.” Again, insults but no examples or substantive arguments to back his comments.
“It is disappointing that a view held by so many cannot be articulated clearly from the words of the Bible without so many distractions.” The ARTICLE IN QUESTION Articulates clearly the view that 1 Corinthians 11:3, does not teach hierarchy in the godhead nor does it teach gender hierarchy among humans. So, in addition to insults, this reader makes patently false statements about a column that articulates clearly the position that there is no hierarchy within the godhead and that mortals are created in the image of God without gender hierarchy.
