Reformed Pastor Wants to Repeal Women's Right to Vote
Dale Partridge says, “Nearly every legalized moral atrocity in the last 100 years was made possible by the female vote.”
Really?!? Just what “moral atrocities” is he talking about?
Is he talking about the moral atrocity of domestic violence laws finally being enacted to protect women from being battered and/or coercively controlled? He’s right, these laws would never have been enacted without the influence of women. And I thank God these laws continue to be enacted and refined due to the continuing influence of women voters.
Is he talking about the moral atrocity of laws that enabled women to finally stop being identified only by their marital status (i.e., Miss or Mrs.)? Marital designations were used for generations to discriminate against women. It wasn’t until the 1970’s, that the law was enacted that permitted women to legally use the neutral designation of Ms.
Men have always had that right. Men have never been identified by their marital status. All American men, regardless of age or marital status, have always been identified using the neutral designation of Mr.
Is Dale Partridge talking about the moral atrocity of women finally being granted the legal right to take out bank loans in their own names? Some younger adults might think that was an ancient thing, but it wasn’t. Until the mid-20th Century, women (either Miss or Mrs.) could not buy homes or cars on credit, or get any kind of bank loan, unless their husbands or fathers stood as guarantors for them.
Is he talking about the moral atrocity of women being legally permitted to keep their jobs after becoming pregnant? Yes. That was a moral atrocity that took place long after women received the right to vote. Until the Mid-20th Century, women—married or unmarried—were often forced to quit their jobs (or be fired) when they became pregnant.
I am 100% pro-life, but I have long laid a large share of the blame for the moral atrocity of abortion on demand at the feet of Christians and the culture at large who treated unmarried pregnant women so shamefully.
Is Partridge talking about the moral atrocity of repealing what hero abolitionist and feminist, Theordore Weld, called “vandal laws” that automatically upon marriage, legally transferred a bride’s property, money, and other financial assets to her groom? These atrocious “vandal laws”—passed by fathers, brothers, and husbands against daughters, sisters, and wives—did not get changed until women gained a say in the legal process, … via the vote.
Is he talking about the moral atrocity of the repeal of laws that automatically granted custody of minor children to husbands in cases of marital separation? Yes, that was the case until well into the 20th Century—which wasn’t all that long ago. Most people alive today, were born in the 20th Century.
The Reformed movement among Christians is unbiblical on more than one count and certainly in their hateful anti-woman theology, which is nothing less than a fulfillment of the consequence warned about in Genesis 3:16, where the Lord God warned both the woman and the man, that, because of sin—both the man’s and the woman’s—men would dominate women. This prophecy began to be fulfilled immediately and has been fulfilled in spades down through the centuries. Sadly, in complementarian churches and families, it continues to be fulfilled today.
It is high time for Christian men and women to repent of demonic complementarian theology—Yes. The doctrine of male governance is a doctrine of demons.
Women and men were created autonomously equal and given equal dominion over all other created things. Even complementarians, among whom those in reformed churches are chief, admit that no hint of inequality can be found in the Genesis Chapter One. And only by practicing hermeneutical gymnastics and by using what this writer calls English-translation-theology can they twist the Hebrew scriptures in Genesis 2-3 to seemingly support discrimination against women.
Pastor Dale Partridge is wrong. Nearly every legalized moral atrocity in history was made possible, not by women, but by sin, by male-only governance, in every religion and every culture since the first couple was expelled from The Garden.
