Theological Double Standards
Verses that say the same thing but are ignored or interpreted differently
“Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord.”
“Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God.”
“Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resists the proud and gives grace to the humble.” Heads-up: Minority texts omit this one, but the verse exists in far more mss (over 5000 of them to be exact) than it is omitted from.
Food for thought: Every one of the above verses translate the Greek word hypotasso as “submit” or “be subject to,” but in interpreting and teaching the verses, scholars only apply a military-like hierarchy to one of them.
Any guesses as to which one, and why you think that is?
